World O-250 Championship: Hirvensalmi - Finland

The JC Racing team ventured off to Hirvensalmi in Finland to take part in the 2011 World O-250 championship. Finishing with two second places and a third meant the team took the bronze medal, only just missing out on the silver medal on total race time of four seconds, having tied on points with Salvatore Chiuri.

JC Racing - 2011 world 250 championship

Time Trial

JC Racing team driver Julian Codling qualified in fourth position in time trials behind the ever impressive Rene Behncke (GER), Francesco Marsala (ITA) and Salvatore Chiuri (ITA). Christoffer Soderstedt (SWE) qualified in fifth with the rest of the field consisting of Riku Lehtonen (FIN), Rolandas Kavaliauskas (LIT), Stefan Probst (GER) and the finish trio of Pertti Virnala, Sami Reinikainen and Ikka Rytkonen.

Race 1

After an excellent start, JC Racing team driver Julian Codling was able to pass both Francesco Marsala (ITA) and Salvatore Chiuri (ITA) and follow Rene Behncke into the first turn. Julian was able to stay in second place for the remainder of the race despite being chased hard by Christoffer Soderstedt (SWE) who finished in an impressive third position.

Race 2

Race 2 saw Julian get another excellent start and as he chased Rene Behncke (GER) into the first corner, Salvatore Chiuri (ITA) come across the front of the JC Racing outfit nearly causing Julian to hook the boat. Fortunately he managed to keep the engine running but by this time he had been passed by Francesco Marsala (ITA) and found himself in fourth place.

Julian tried hard too chase down the Italian and his hard work gave him a little luck as Francesco Marsala engine died towards the end of the race meaning Julian took third position behind Rene Behncke (GER) and Salvatore Chiuri (ITA).

Race 3

Another good start saw JC Racing team driver chasing Rene Benhcke into the first corner. As they came down to the second turn the engine suddenly stopped as Julian realise the throttle cable had broken. The DNF was even more frustrating when the ever consistent Rene Behncke also stopped which meant had the throttle cable not snapped Julian and the JC Racing Team would have possibly won the race guaranteeing them the silver medal.

The race was won by Francesco Marsala (ITA) with Salvatore Chiuri (ITA) finishing second and Christoffer Soderstedt (SWE) finishing third.

Race 4

After failing to finish the third race, Julian had to start on last position on the jetty but after a lighting start Julian powered the JC Racing outfit away from the jetty and found himself ahead of Rene Behncke (GER) after 300 meters. However the superior speed of Rene Behncke (GER) and the Demmler Racing Team saw him move ahead as they approached the first turn and it was a lead he never surrendered. Julian was able to hold onto second position for the whole race despite a strong challenge from Salvatore Chiuri (ITA) who finished the final heat in third place.

Bronze Medal for Jc Racing Team

With three wins out of the four races it was Rene Behncke (GER) who was crowned the 2011 World O-250 Champion with Salvatore Chiuri (ITA) taking the silver medal despite finishing on the same number of points of the JC Racing Team driver Julian Codling who took the Bronze medal. Over the four races it was just four seconds that separated the two drivers which determined who took the silver and bronze medal.
