2011 European Championship F250: Round 4 – Viverone, Italy

The JC Racing Team travelled to Italy for the final round of the European Formula 250 Series that was held on the fantastic Lake Viverone. Two second place finishes along with a final heat race win meant team driver Julian Codling secured second overall in the series to give him the silver medal to go with the bronze medal the team won last year.

Qualifying was again dominated by Demmler Racing Team driver Rene Behncke (GER) who was then followed by Max Cremona (ITA) who was racing in front of his home crowd. JC Racing Team driver Julian Codling qualified third on the jetty and was followed by Dimitry Gerasymenko (UKR), Alex Zinolli (ITA), Claudio Fanzini (ITA), Wayne Turner (GBR) and Stefan Probst (GER).

Race 1

Julian once again got one of his lightning starts and as they appeared from the spray of the first two corners it was Rene Behncke (GER) who had the lead with Julian passing Max Cremona (ITA) on the outside of turn one to move into second place. As the pair raced towards the bottom turn Max tried to move up the inside of Julian but running the faster outside line Julian was able to hold of the challenge and hang on to second place. It was Rene Behncke who took the first race win with Julian in second and Wayne Turner (GBR) finishing third after Max Cremona (ITA) had broken down.

Race 2

As the light went out and the 250cc hydroplanes burst into life it looked like Julian had got a blistering start and was ahead of Rene Behncke (GER) when his engine suddenly died. Fortunately he managed to keep it running but by the time it was back to full speed Julian found himself down in seventh position. Working hard he was able to pass both Stephan Probst (GER) and eventually Wayne Turner (GBR) but was unable to catch Dimitry Gerasymenko (UKR) and had to settle for fifth place. The race win once again went to Rene Behncke (GER) despite being chased hard by Max Cremona (ITA) who finished second.

Race 3

starting from fifth place on the jetty it was Julian's best start of the weekend and as they came into view after the first corner he was along side Max Cremona (ITA). however Max was able to hold Julian off and maintained his second place for the whole race with the Julian having to settle for third place. However this third position was enough to guarantee the overall silver medal for the team. The race was won by Demmler Racing Team driver Rene Behncke (GER) who made it a hatrick of victories to guarantee the european title for the third year running.

Race 4

With Rene Behncke (GER) already having maximum points it was between Julian and Max Cremona (ITA) to decide who take second and third place on the day. Julian made another excellent start and beat Max to the first corner and put in an impressive display to take a determined race win with Max Cremona (ITA) second and Dimitry Gerasymenko (UKR) third.

Overall

The first place in the final heat was enough to give Julian Codling second place for the JC Racing Team ahead of Max Cremona (ITA) in third. First place went to Rene Behncke (GER) who made it a maximum 4 wins from 4 rounds not dropping a single point
