2010 National Championship: Round 3 Stewartby Lakes

After three second place finishes in the National Outboard Championship for the last three years, The JC Racing Team finally took the 2010 National Outboard Championship title with three race wins at a chilly, breezy Stewartby Lakes.

Julian Codling with the 250cc GRM powered Trombetta hydroplane

Unfortunately due to engine problems with numerous teams, only three teams entered the final round of the championship at Stewartby Lakes. All JC Racing Team driver Julian Codling had to do was finish the meeting to be crowned national champion.

Race one saw Julian take the race win from Kevin Turner in a similar 250cc outfit, despite losing a blade off the propella. Kevin also suffered bad luck damaging a gearbox and without a replacement had to withdraw from the remainder of the meeting.

This left Julian to battle it out with Wayne Turner in the 125cc VRP powered Trombetta hydroplane in the remaining races with Julian having to do one lap more with the powerful 250cc GRM powered Trombetta outfit.

With Julian combating the rough conditions at Stewartby Lakes he was able to make up the one lap deficit on Wayne in both the second and third race to take a maximum three wins from three.

Overall Result

With three first place finishes, Julian gave the team maximum points for the championship and more importantly that first national title emulating what his father achieved in the 1970's. Wayne Turner who has had some bad luck this year damaging his boat at an international meeting came second overall constantly supporting the national series, and it was good to see Kevin Turner getting better all the time with the 250cc powered hydroplane finishing the series third overall.
