After catching the bug at international level in 2008 the JC Racing Team realised to become competitive on the world stage the team would have to move away from the classic Konig/Konny engines to the more powerful GRM engines.
2009 saw the JC Racing Team not only move to a 250cc GRM engine built by Italian multiple world champion Guisseppi Rossi but also invest in a new hull that was built by former hydroplane racer Gary Pugh from America.
It was to be a new learning curve for the team to understand the GRM engine capabilities and it was soon evident that this was a quick motor. Unfortunately the new boat was causing the team some issues around the tight circuit of Oulton Broad and the first round of the national was the final straw with the team finishing a disappointing 5th place on their home circuit.
This resulted in team driver Julian codling purchasing Malcolm Goodman's Andick hydroplane (pictured below), similar to what the team raced with the previous season, and on the national scene the team didn't look back from this point.
A fantastic second place at the second round at Kinsbury Water Park followed by a first place in the final round at Stewartby lakes once again meant the JC Racing Team missed out on the overall title by only one point to Wayne Turner for the second season running.
The National Sprint Championship also shew the potential of the 250cc GRM engine as team took the National 250cc Sprint title. It was clear the team where beginning to understand the GRM engine with a memorable battle in the first heat with Paul Jillings racing a 350cc GRM outfit, which ended in a dead heat as both drivers crossed the line at the same time.
Having suffered problems with the hull at the start of the season the JC Racing Team decided against venturing overseas to international events during 2009 and decided to race on the local circuit to develop a better understanding of the GRM engine.
On the local circuit it was more about testing during the 2009 season although once again the team managed to lift the famous King of the Broads Trophy. An evening that saw three great races between team driver Julian and Area 31 Racing driver David Jones in the classic restored 500cc Konig hydroplane outfit.
